Ribblesdale is named after the River Ribble which flows West into Lancashire and eventually arrives at the Irish Sea. The valley passes between Ingleborough and Pen-Y-Ghent which are two of the famous 3 Peaks of Yorkshire, which attract many walkers to the area. The Settle to Carlisle railway passes through the dale and crosses the famous Ribblehead viaduct North of Horton in Ribblesdale.
